From 25 May to 30 June 2024, Taranto is "The island of the arts" with the Australian photographer Lisa Sorgini.
EYELAND is an event organized by PhEST, a cultural association that has been organizing the international photography and art festival in Monopoli for nine years.
EYELAND will be the island of the arts, or the Old City of Taranto, a land enclosed between two seas, also known as Isola Madre. MOTHER LAND will be the theme.
EYELAND has chosen to invite Lisa Sorgini, an Australian photographer of Italian origins who will bring the "Mother" exhibition to the Old City.
The artist will also be in residence for three weeks starting from April 21st to create a participatory photographic story in the Tamburi district of Taranto. The district experiences the painful environmental and social consequences of being close to the Ilva steelmaking hub.
The project, developed thanks to collaboration with local organizations involved in cultural and social activities, involves the creation of a series of portraits of mothers and children in the neighborhood, the same mothers who fight and demonstrate every day to protect the health of their children .
The exhibition takes place outdoors, in the streets of the Old City of Taranto, from 25 May to 30 June 2024.
